Pre-trip

Matthew 18:3 says, "And he said, 'I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'"  I chose this verse to start off my trip with and hopefully it will remember to follow it.  First of all it talks about children, and I will be working with children of ALL ages.  I realize the verse isn't talking about ministry with children, but it reminds me of why I am in Accra.  I am not here to have fun and experience all that Ghana has to offer, although I believe those things will happen.  God has placed me in this position for a reason, and I believe that is to teach and mentor the students at American International School.  The second reason I chose this verse is because I want to have the faith of a child.  Children look up to their fathers and see them as superheroes who can do anything.  They will listen to almost anything he has to say. (By the way, I want to thank my parents so much for supporting me and being the best parents a young man could ask for!!  Thank you to my father for being a godly example.  Thank you to my mother for loving me so much and making sure I have everything I need for the trip!)  Through Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit, I want to develop that child-like faith in my heavenly Father!  I know that He works all things together for my good and that He loves me infinitely more than I can ever imagine, so it only makes sense for me to completely trust Him with my life.  Jesus, break my pride and develop in me that child-like faith.
Another verse which I hope to apply on this trip is Galatians 1:10, "Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I still trying to please men?  If I were still trying to please men I would not be a servant of Christ."  This verse is very simple, but so hard to apply.
Lord willing, I will be landing in Accra, Ghana in about 23 hours and starting ministry at American International School.   Adjusting to life and getting ready for school will be the majority of time for the first week, and after that the students come!!  I am excited about the opportunity to work with so many students from so many different backgrounds!  I am thankful that God has given me this chance to glorify Him and pray that I would praise Him in everything I do in Ghana.

  1. Josiah, We are all praying for you - especially me since I will be doing my preplanning and meeting my students on the same schedule as you. We are so thrilled that you are taking Jesus to the world!
